6 Steps to Make Sure Your SXSW Badgeless Journey Rocks!
Austin is an amazing city that is filled with music, art, film, and opportunity. One of Austin’s biggest conferences that combine each of the above is SXSW. People from around the country travel to Austin once a year for ten days to be a part of this experience. Attending SXSW has been a priority on my list of things to do before I graduate, but my budget does not always stretch far enough to accommodate the price of a badge that is required. This year, determined, I did my research and I am happy to announce that it is very possible to experience SXSW badgeless (for FREE). I am prepared to tell you everything you need to know in the following six steps to make sure your SXSW badgeless journey rocks!
1. Find what events do not require a badge to attend.
Facebook has a page for literally everything, so it should be no shock that there really is a page dedicated to attending SXSW without a badge. I definitely recommend checking it out and looking at the posts and links dedicated to all of the events that will be going on that week. There are several, so you should have no problems finding a concert or party that interests you.

2. Plan a schedule of all of the events you want to attend.
You definitely do not have to stick to the schedule that you make, but this will help you stay organized and keep you from missing out on an event that you are really interested in. Plus, in case an event has a strict guest limit, you will have a back up plan.
3. Have a SXSW friend.
Austin is already a big city that can sometimes be hard to navigate. With the conference, the city will be that much busier. Not only will having a friend be safer, but it will also make the experience more fun. Remember, “one’s company, two’s a crowd, three’s a party!”
4. Look at a map before going.
Downtown has lots of one-way streets and limited parking. So whether you are driving (good luck) or walking, it will be very beneficial to map out where all of the events that you will be attending are taking place. You will save time not getting lost and be able to spend more time enjoying the events.
5. Dress for the occasion.
While your intentions may only be to have fun, you never know whom you will run into or meet at an event. Dress to impress, but wear comfortable shoes because it is inevitable that you are going to be doing a lot of walking.
6. Pace yourself.
If this is your first time, SXSW might be a bit overwhelming with all of the events that will be going on. It will be impossible to attend everything that you want to so slow down, pace yourself, and enjoy every minute of it.
Follow these six steps and your SXSW badgeless experience should be a success. Remember, attending without a badge this year will not only give you plenty of time to save your money to buy a badge next year, but you will also be a veteran at enjoying the experience. Hope to see you there!
